CEDAR RIDGE BARRELS USED BY LOCAL BREWERIES
January 23rd, 2014
Ever wonder what happens to our oak barrels after they are used for aging Bourbon, Dark Rum, Brandy and our other dark spirits? Many of them are sold to local businesses to be used as decor or to age craft beer! It’s a great way to keep it in the community.
Brrr Fest, the annual celebration of winter beers, is this Saturday in Coralville. Those lucky enough to have gotten tickets before the event sold out will sample a variety of craft beers- including at least two aged in Cedar Ridge ex-whiskey barrels. Backpocket Brewing will toast to their first anniversary by releasing the First Anniversary Stout. This commemorative ale is an Oat Stout aged in Cedar Ridge Bourbon barrels for nine months. Big Grove Brewery will be releasing its excellent Russian Imperial Stout which was aged in our Short’s Whiskey barrels. Cedar Ridge will be positioned right in between these two great breweries at the event.
Other local breweries have big plans for our barrels. Confluence Brewing Company has recently purchased our Short’s Whiskey barrels, Lion Bridge Brewing company has acquired some Brandy barrels and Kalona Brewing Company will be using our Apple Brandy barrels. Stay tuned for these beer releases in the coming months. Cheers!
