DAVE ZOLLO began playing the piano at 4 years old, releasing his first album in 1994 and rocking the Midwest every since. In addition to solo albums and performances, Zollo has collaborated with nationally-known musicians including Kelly Pardekooper, Dick Prall, Bo Ramsey, and William Elliot Whitmore. For the first time, Fresh Ink Oatmeal Stout is in kegs and cans…and our featured community member, Anthony “Spit” Spitzer, the fellow on the can and owner and operator of longtime Kalona family business Kalona Graphics will be relaxing at the Kalona Brewing bar this Sunday, May 15 from 5pm-6pm to chat. Come on down for this informal meet and greet.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION

Across the centuries and around the world, crime stories have always fascinated people from all walks of life – but who are we kidding? The real watchers, those truly in the know, have always been the ladies. Join us for an evening of true crime tales of killers and trailblazers, brutal broads and awesome angels, presented by Sarah Cailean.

There will be talk of killers– both infamous and obscure cases– as well as women who have never gotten their proper due as investigators, forensic scientists, and the leaders in our current renaissance of true crime media. (Please note, if this presentation were rated it would be considered a PG-13  presentation)

ABOUT SARAH CAILEAN

A former police officer and detective, Sarah Cailean is now an independent consultant for cold case homicides and disappearances, specializing in cases involving serial predators. She serves as a crime correspondent for HLN, contributes to numerous true crime podcasts, and produces documentaries about cases she is investigating.

Big Game Sunday Watch Party

See the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on February 7 on the big screen at Kalona Brewing starting at 3:30pm with pre-game coverage; kick-off at 5:30pm.

Alec Lang is a songwriter living in Iowa City, Iowa. His songs are deeply rooted in the Midwest and often explore the inner-turmoil of those living there. The characters who inhabit his songs are ordinary, well-meaning people who are also very troubled. His lyric writing is influenced by John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Iris Dement, and David Berman (Silver Jews & Purple Mountains).

Jordan Sellergren – Live Music, American Craft Beer Week

Join us for the hauntingly beautiful music of folk-blues singer-songwriter Jordan Sellergren, Friday, May 17 at 6 pm.

Born on the bluffs of the Mississippi in Burlington, Iowa, visual artist Jordan Sellergren began actively songwriting in 2009 while living and working in Auckland, New Zealand, returning to Iowa in 2010.

A talented songwriter, mother, artist, and active member of the Iowa City community, Jordan feels passionately about historic architectural preservation and hopes that someday Iowa will be known for its clean water systems.

This Friday night performance is one of KBC’s special events for American Craft Beer Week, a nationwide celebration of U.S. small and independent craft brewers. No cover; scratch kitchen open till close.
