POSTPONED – History on Tap, “Humanoid Robot Takeover”, Presented by the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library

This event is postponed to later this spring or summer – we’ll update you when we know details. Stay safe; be well!

The National Czech and Slovak Museum of Iowa brings their popular monthly discussion series History on Tap to Kalona Brewing Company this April with a fun talk entitled “Humanoid Robot Takeover”.

There is no cover for the event; food and drink is available for purchase. Wednesday nights are Stein Night from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m.; purchase a stein of the night’s featured beer for just the price of a pint.

RSVPs are not necessary but appreciated at (319) 656-3335.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Robots have integrated into our society, moving beyond manufacturing applications. Robots can now be found working in hotels, hospitals, and schools. They are learning to drive and deliver packages. Robots also appear in television shows, films, and plays. University of Iowa Associate Professor of Computer Science, Denise Szecsei, will discuss her work programming NAO humanoid robots and the UI Robot Theater Project. Why robots? This program ties to our upcoming exhibition, A Century of Robots, which traces the history of robotics in pop culture and technology.

Szecsei has a Ph.D in mathematics and is passionate about the learning process. She has been working with Nao Robots for two years, and has taught robot dance and theater classes to students with a variety of interests and backgrounds, and loves to see how people of all ages express themselves through these robots.

Tail Light Rebellion

Tail Light Rebellion is stopping by KBC on their tour, out of North Carolina and weaving through the Midwest! See them live for Second Sunday Music Night; no cover; scratch kitchen open till close.

Tail Light Rebellion is an amalgamation of roots music genres, incorporating styles from Irish, Slavic, Canadian, Jamaican, and American folk music.  Started as a one man band, this project blossomed into what is now a three piece dance band that can both move a room and invoke emotion. Consisting of an acoustic guitar player who sits upon a homemade suitcase drumkit, an electric bass player, and accordion- the rich tones, moving rhythms, dynamic leads, and righteous harmonies will not disappoint.
