Society of Broken Souls – 5th Anniversary Event
September 15, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Kalona Brewing Company is celebrating 5 brew-tiful years since co-owners Lew Brewer and Ted Nagy opened KBC, with a special Saturday night event featuring Society of Broken Souls, the folk noir songwriting duo of multi-instrumentalists Dennis James and Lauryn Shapter.
Performing their own brand of American Roots Music, the duo writes unflinching songs that confront our shared, raw humanity while celebrating the beautiful mosaic of the human experience. Having performed in 25 states from coast to coast over the last decade, their live show features seamless harmony vocals and a wide array of instruments and sounds. From stripped down, bare-bones acoustic arrangements to a denser and edgier electric sound, their songs invite the listener to walk through the fire with them — and to find freedom, strength and courage on the other side.
The brewery’s scratch kitchen will be open till close, featuring for the week $1 slices of birthday cake, and on Friday and Saturday, hand-hammered pork tenderloin, surf and turf (New York strip & Gulf shrimp), and crab cakes with rémoulade.
Also for our anniversary, we are releasing a very special brew, Old Soul – Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy.
This big, yet unassuming, Scotch ale was brewed both as a celebratory beer, and as a memorial ale by Head Brewer Warren “W” Yoder in memory of his friend and mentor who passed too soon, Sam Williams. The taste notes and beauty of the beer are subtle, layered, and lingering, representing the many conversations he had with Sam not only about beer, but about life and faith.
